Guide to weekend in London with Teens!

16 April 2024

We had to make it fun, which means limited sightseeing and galleries. Although one of mine requested visiting the Natural History Museum which we did on arrival. It never disappoints!  But ultimately a trip to London with teens involves a variety of food outlets and plenty of shopping!

We actually chose to stay in the city, Tower Hill @ Citizen M. A really affordable yet fun hotel with a bar on the 7th floor which offers fantastic views across the Themes. Great for a pre-dinner cocktail.

We chose this side of London for a change as we often do the usual Westend shops but this time we mooched around Spittlefields, Brick Lane and Hoxton. More about this later. First let’s focus on food.

Eating Out

DF Tacos;Lively, fun and affordable. Duck & Waffle; A must for a 360 view of London. The Ned; One for me more than the kids. We had a drink in Millies Lounge. Next time I’m going back sans kids for a slap up meal. Didn’t want to waste the cash on them!

Shopping

Spittlefields Old Market: for browsing old vinyl, jewellery and loads more. Loads of eating places too.

Brick Lane; for vintage clothing. We loved Rokit for vintage Levis and jackets.

There were a couple of fun exhibitions on. If any of your kids are into Lego, Art of Bricks is worth a visit.

Columbia Road Market on a Sunday has a great vibe. Although kids didn’t want to stay too long so we headed to Regents street for a bit off big brand shopping!

Lunch or Evening Spot

Get Your Mexican the DF way.

DF Tacos is a really fun stop for Mexican food. Really affordable, quick (important for my kids) and it had a lively vibe.

FYI, they do have a DJ at the Shoreditch Branch on weekends... just in case that isn't your vibe.

For Drinks

A British restaurant and bar in the grand banking hall. So classic, I love it. Kids not so fussed!

Shop at Spittlefields Market

The original market (‘Spittle Fields’) on this site dates back to 1638 selling ‘flesh and fowl’ (erm, sounds lovely!). Since the 1990s, Old Spitalfields has become more of a retail and craft market.

If you're looking for something vintage or one off's this is the place to be. There are also over 40 food and drink stalls and restaurants located in Old Spitalfields Market.

Pretty much every world cuisine is catered for here from the traditional fish and chips served by Poppies (a London institution) through an European epicurean adventure to the fiery flavours of South East Asia. A recent addition is also a row of street-food vans both inside and just outside the market.

Don't worry if bigger brand shops are your think there's plenty of them too. The whole area around the market have been develop into an excellent shopping location.

City Vibes

Top tip, wander around rather than taking tube everywhere. Stops are often pretty close and it's amazing what you'll come across. It's my favourite part of sightseeing.
